Bangkok: The Thai men's tennis team is gearing up to face Puerto Rico in an eagerly awaited Davis Cup playoff match, with a coveted spot in World Group 2 on the line. The clash is set to take place on February 7-8, 2026, at the National Tennis Development Center in Muang Thong Thani. According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Suchai Pornchaisakudom, President of the Lawn Tennis Association of Thailand under the Royal Patronage, announced that all preparations for this major event have been completed. The center court, which was recently utilized for the 33rd SEA Games, has been meticulously renovated and cleaned to ensure it is in perfect condition for the competition. Mr. Suchai emphasized the significance of the Davis Cup as a tournament, highlighting the stakes involved: the victor will advance to World Group 2, while the defeated team will move down to Asia/Oceania Group 3. He further disclosed that Colonel Wattana Chanpaichit, a member of the association's executive committee and manager of the Thai Davis Cu p team, has reported that the Thai players, who are currently competing internationally, will commence joint training sessions on February 2nd. The Puerto Rican team is also expected to arrive in Thailand on the same date. Mr. Suchai acknowledged Puerto Rico's strength, noting their victory over Bolivia to reach the playoffs. While Thailand had previously lost to Bolivia on clay courts, the upcoming matches will take place on hard courts, which could play to Thailand's advantage. Confident in the team's preparation, Mr. Suchai invited Thai supporters to cheer for the national team at the stadium or watch the live broadcast on T-Sport 7.
