Thai Youth Olympic Team Strives for Success in Second Half of Dakar 2026

Dakar:Bangkok The Thai Youth Olympic team continues to push forward in the second half of the competition at the 4th Youth Olympic Games, "Dakar 2026," taking place from October 31st to November 13th, 2026, in Dakar, Senegal. Although the team has yet to secure any medals, their progress is evident and promising.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Prodpran Samanmit, Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT), remarked on the team's performance, noting that this year's Youth Olympic Games differ significantly from previous editions. In prior years, Thai athletes were highly skilled and qualified for many competitions, resulting in numerous medals. However, this year, a policy change saw quota allocations distributed more evenly among participating countries, reducing the number of athletes each nation could send. The focus is now on participation and athlete development rather than solely on winning medals.

Ms. Prodpran highlighted that, despite the lack of medals so far, the satisfactory performance of many sports at the halfway point indicates potential for growth in future tournaments, such as the Olympic Games. The young athletes, aged 13-18, gain valuable exposure to international competition, which will aid in their development as future key players for their countries.

In the upcoming second half of the season, several sports remain for enthusiasts to follow, including boxing (November 7-12, 2026), windsurfing (November 8-12, 2026), cycling (November 8-10, 2026), athletics (November 8-10, 2026), and beach handball (November 9-13, 2026).
