Dubai: Thai national youth para-athletes achieved remarkable success at the Asian Youth Para Games, clinching a total of 33 gold medals, 32 silver medals, and 29 bronze medals. Their impressive performance secured Thailand the 4th place position in Asia, reinforcing their status as the leading nation in ASEAN.
According to Thai News Agency, Dr. Kongsak Yodmani, the Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT), expressed his satisfaction with the results, highlighting that Thailand's youth para-athletes not only achieved but exceeded their target of 30 gold medals. The team ranked behind Uzbekistan, Iran, and Japan, who took the top three positions with 99, 62, and 40 gold medals, respectively.
Dr. Kongsak revealed that Thailand's participation in the 5th Asian Youth Para Games, held from December 7-14, 2025, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, was a collaborative effort. The SAT worked alongside the Thailand Paralympic Committee, the Paralympic Committee of Thailand, and various disability sports associations, including the Intellectual Disability Sports Association, the Cerebral Palsy Sports Association, and the Blind Sports Association. This collaboration ensured that the 126 athletes competing in 11 sports had full support in sports science. The sports included archery, weightlifting, athletics, badminton, boccia, goalball, arm wrestling, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, and wheelchair basketball.
Dr. Kongsak emphasized the significance of the results, stating that Thailand remains the number one nation in ASEAN. He also mentioned the ongoing preparations for Thailand to host the 13th ASEAN Para Games in Nakhon Ratchasima from January 20-26, 2026, ensuring that Thai national para-athletes will be thoroughly prepared for the upcoming competition.
