Thailand Achieves ‘Low Risk’ Status for EUDR, Boosting Agricultural Exports

Bangkok: Thailand is now in the 'Low Risk' group of the EUDR, which facilitates agricultural exports to the EU. The Minister of Agriculture announced that the European Union has classified Thailand as a "low-risk" group according to the EUDR rules. This classification is expected to facilitate agricultural exports, reflecting confidence in Thailand's sustainable agriculture. According to Thai News Agency, Prof. Dr. Narumon Pinyosinwat, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, disclosed that the European Commission has announced the list of countries classified as risk groups under the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). This new rule by the European Union mandates that agricultural exports to the European market must not be involved in deforestation. Thailand's classification as a "Low Risk" country indicates that its agricultural production system is not linked to deforestation and can reliably comply with EUDR requirements, particularly in traceability and legal production processes aligned with land, lab or, and human rights laws. The Minister of Agriculture emphasized that the ministry has consistently worked with the EU and encouraged Thai farmers and entrepreneurs to enhance their environmental management and sustainability efforts. This cooperation is expected to simplify the process for key agricultural products such as cocoa, coffee, palm oil, soybeans, wood, and rubber to meet crucial EU criteria. Prof. Dr. Narumon stated, 'This is the result of Thailand's commitment to sustainable agriculture development that is environmentally friendly and in line with international standards accepted by the EU.'
