Bangkok: The Secretary-General of the National Security Council announced that Thailand retains the right to cancel Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) 44, despite Cambodia's dissatisfaction over the decision. He also mentioned that the police have established measures to protect significant national figures following a shooting incident at a Trump-led party. According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Chatchai Bangchawad, Secretary-General of the National Security Council (NSC), stated that the cancellation of MOU 44 will not affect bilateral relations, which are expected to continue as planned. The Prime Minister has indicated that an alternative agreement is necessary following the cancellation. Although Cambodia disagrees with this decision, a legal review has confirmed Thailand's right to unilaterally cancel the agreement. The timing of this cancellation remains uncertain, contingent upon the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' submission to the Cabinet. In response to concerns about the safety of VIPs in Thailand follo wing an assassination attempt on the US President at a White House event, the NSC clarified that it is not directly responsible for this matter. However, it assured that the police have established security measures and are actively gathering intelligence. The police have implemented procedures, particularly in this heightened security environment, and further details are expected from the police regarding these measures.
