Chanthaburi: Thai and Cambodian officials have reached an agreement to construct a border fence spanning over 8 kilometers on the Chanthaburi-Trat side, between boundary markers 52 and 59. Ambassador Prasat is set to visit the area to oversee developments.
According to Thai News Agency, the agreement follows a meeting between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs from both countries. Mr. Prasarn Prasarnvinitchai, Head of the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) for Thailand, signed the Technical Instruction (TI) for the survey and installation of temporary border markers, with the Cambodian side granting approval. The completion of the TI marks the conclusion of Stage 2, and the project is set to advance to Stage 3, which involves further surveying and the installation of temporary markers.
On November 4, 2015, a joint Thai-Cambodian border survey and demarcation team convened to discuss technical recommendations for the project. The team was led by Col. Yutthaphon Sucharit, the Thai field commander, and Mr. Promseun Wattana, the Cambodian field commander. Key officials, including Capt. Prachya Hanthiam, Commander of the Chanthaburi Naval Task Force, and Capt. Than Thongrabkaew, Deputy Commander, participated in the discussions held at the Chong Dong permanent border checkpoint in Kom Riang District, Battambang Province, Cambodia.
The budget for the construction of the border fence is secured, with contributions from the Hathai Thip Fund under the Chulabhorn Foundation, supported by Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Walailak, Princess Srisavangavadhana Worakhattiyaratna.
