Thailand and China Forge New Cooperation Pathways in AI and Investment

Shanghai: The Prime Minister held discussions with Xi Jinping, opening the door to Thai-Chinese cooperation and attracting AI and investment. The Thai Prime Minister held discussions with Xi Jinping, opening the door to a new round of cooperation between Thailand and China. This includes leveraging AI, investment, and future industries to create new opportunities for the Thai economy and enhance security through the 2+2 (two-plus-two) mechanism. According to Thai News Agency, the meeting took place at the Xijiao State Guest Hotel, where Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul paid a courtesy call on President Xi Jinping of the People's Republic of China. The discussions were extensive and in-depth. President Xi extended his best wishes to His Majesty the King on the occasion of his 28th birthday on July 2026. The Prime Minister expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the Chinese government for the honorable welcome during His Majesty's official State Visit to China. The Chinese Presid ent emphasized that Thailand and China are like one family, and China is ready to support the Thai government in elevating the comprehensive strategic partnership. This aims to create new opportunities for Thailand through cooperation in economics, investment, artificial intelligence (AI), future industries, and regional security. The discussions between the two leaders also focused on a stable and mutually beneficial future for both countries and the region. Both leaders reaffirmed their intention to continue the long-standing friendship between Thailand and China, and to push for concrete cooperation to foster economic growth, enhance Thailand's competitiveness, and create new opportunities for their people in the long term. The Prime Minister stated that Thailand values China as a trusted and long-standing friend and is ready to continue cooperation in all dimensions, especially in driving the economy of the future. Artificial intelligence (AI) will be a key technology that will determine the country's c ompetitiveness in the next decade. Therefore, Thailand and China should jointly develop AI technology, human resources, and governance to ensure that the technology benefits all citizens, while simultaneously addressing new challenges such as online crime and climate change. The Prime Minister proposed that Thailand and China jointly open up new economic opportunities by promoting investment in future industries such as AI, semiconductors, healthcare technology, clean energy, and green industries. He also invited Chinese high-tech enterprises to invest in Thailand, using the country as a production base and regional headquarters, connecting supply chains, developing Thai human resources, and increasing the use of domestic raw materials in order to create quality jobs and enhance the competitiveness of the Thai economy. Both sides also agreed to accelerate the connectivity of transportation, trade, and logistics infrastructure by land, sea, and air, as well as the development of regional railway networks, to facilitate trade, investment, and people-to-people travel. They also agreed to expand cooperation in space technology, public health, human resource development, and people-to-people exchanges to strengthen mutual understanding and long-term cooperation between the two countries. Regarding security, the Prime Minister proposed establishing a 2+2 mechanism between the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Defence of Thailand and China. This mechanism would serve as a strategic dialogue forum and enhance cooperation in combating online crime, exchanging intelligence, and addressing emerging threats, thereby strengthening regional security and stability. Regarding regional issues, the Prime Minister thanked China for its support in resolving the Thai-Cambodian situation through bilateral mechanisms, in order to jointly maintain peace and stability in the region. At the same time, Thailand thanked China for its support of the peace process in Myanmar, as well as for allowing China to regain its role in ASEAN, and for utilizing regional forums such as China-ASEAN, APEC, and the Mekong-Lancang Initiative to their fullest potential. This discussion reflects the government's vision of using international relations as a mechanism to create economic opportunities and enhance national potential. It aims to transform the long-standing friendship between Thailand and China into tangible cooperation, including attracting investment in future industries, developing AI technology, creating quality jobs, and strengthening regional stability, for the long-term benefit of the people of both countries.
