Thailand Braces for Increased Rainfall and Thunderstorms Amid Weather Warnings

Bangkok: The South of Thailand is set to experience increased rainfall, while thunderstorms and strong winds are expected to continue affecting the upper regions of the country. The Meteorological Department has issued warnings for heavy rains in the South, advising residents to be cautious of flash floods and forest runoff. Simultaneously, the North, Northeast, and Central regions will face thunderstorms and strong winds, with hot weather persisting during the day. In Bangkok and its vicinity, thunderstorms are predicted to affect 60% of the area.

According to Thai News Agency, the Meteorological Department's forecast for the next 24 hours indicates that the South will see more rain, with some areas experiencing heavy downpours. Residents in these regions are urged to be vigilant about the potential dangers posed by heavy and accumulated rain, which could lead to flash floods and forest runoff, particularly on hillsides, near waterways, and lowlands. This weather pattern is attributed to the movement of easterly wind waves covering the Gulf of Thailand and the South, while northwesterly winds prevail over the Andaman Sea. In both the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea, waves are expected to reach approximately 1 meter in height, rising to over 2 meters in areas experiencing thunderstorms. Sailors are advised to exercise caution and avoid navigating through storm-affected areas.

For the upper regions of Thailand, the forecast continues to predict thunderstorms and strong winds in certain areas, particularly in the North, Northeast, and Central regions, where hot daytime temperatures are also anticipated. Residents in these areas should be cautious of the potential hazards associated with thunderstorms and strong winds, and should prioritize their health amidst the changing weather conditions brought about by the southern and southeastern winds that are spreading moisture across the upper part of the country.

The detailed weather forecast anticipates thunderstorms in 40% of the Northern region, affecting provinces such as Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, and Chiang Rai, among others. The Northeastern region is expected to see thunderstorms in 30% of the area, impacting provinces including Loei and Chaiyaphum. Meanwhile, the Central region will experience thunderstorms in 40% of the area, affecting provinces like Nakhon Sawan and Uthai Thani. The Eastern region is expected to have thunderstorms in 60% of the area, with heavy rain in provinces such as Chachoengsao and Rayong.

For the Southern region, both the east and west coasts are predicted to have thunderstorms in 70% of the area, with heavy rain affecting various provinces including Ranong and Phuket on the west coast, and Prachuap Khiri Khan and Surat Thani on the east coast. Bangkok and its vicinity, too, are set to face a 60% chance of thunderstorms and heavy rain, with temperatures ranging from a minimum of 25 degrees Celsius to a maximum of 35 degrees Celsius.
