Thailand Braces for Thunderstorms and Strong Winds Amid Rising Temperatures

Bangkok: The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for thunderstorms and strong winds as temperatures are set to rise in the upper part of Thailand. The central region, including Bangkok and its vicinity, along with the northern region, will experience hot weather. The southern region is expected to see more rainfall.

According to Thai News Agency, the forecast for the next 24 hours indicates a temperature increase across the upper part of the country. Despite the rising heat, thunderstorms and strong winds, including lightning, are anticipated in some areas of the northern, central, and eastern regions, as well as in Bangkok. Residents in these areas are advised to stay vigilant against potential dangers from these weather conditions, avoiding open areas, large trees, unstable structures, and billboards. Caution is also advised during outdoor activities, particularly during the Songkran festival. Farmers are encouraged to take preventative measures to protect their crops and livestock and to maintain their health amidst the changing weather.

The current weather patterns are attributed to a weakening high-pressure area or moderate cold air mass from China affecting the northeastern region of Thailand and the South China Sea, combined with southeasterly winds over the upper part of Thailand. This shift is causing the anticipated weather changes.

In the southern region, increased rainfall is expected due to strengthening southeasterly winds over the Andaman Sea, the South, and the Gulf of Thailand. The waves in these areas are predicted to reach about 1 meter high, with areas experiencing thunderstorms seeing waves rise above 2 meters. Sailors are advised to avoid navigating through thunderstorm-affected regions.

The regional forecast includes generally hot weather with varying chances of thunderstorms and strong winds in the northern, northeastern, central, and eastern regions. Specific provinces such as Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Loei, Chaiyaphum, Uthai Thani, and Nakhon Nayok may experience more intense weather conditions. In the southern region, both the east and west coasts are expected to face significant rainfall and thunderstorms, with heavy rains likely in specific areas like Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Ranong, and Phuket.

Bangkok and its vicinity are predicted to experience thunderstorms in 40% of the area, with strong winds in some places. Residents are advised to prepare for minimum temperatures of 25-26 degrees Celsius, with maximum temperatures reaching 32-35 degrees Celsius.
