New York:New York City Thailand's Minister of Public Health highlighted the country's achievements in reducing maternal mortality rates at a United Nations General Assembly session in New York. The rates have been brought down to approximately 28-34 per 100,000 live births, surpassing the UN Sustainable Development Goals target of 70 per 100,000 live births.
According to Thai News Agency, the Minister attributed this success to five key factors, including a robust public health service network and universal health coverage, high standards of hospital care, continuous enhancement of public health personnel capabilities, sustainable fiscal management, and community and family involvement.
The Minister also outlined future priorities for Thailand, focusing on developing a diverse public health workforce, strengthening community-level collaboration, and securing sustainable funding sources. Thailand intends to enhance cooperation with the United Nations Population Fund and partner countries to share experiences and innovations aimed at ending preventable maternal and infant deaths globally.
