Thailand Election Commission Collaborates with TikTok for 2026 Elections

Bangkok: The Election Commission of Thailand (ECT) has announced a strategic partnership with TikTok Thailand to enhance the promotion of the 2026 parliamentary elections and referendum.

According to Thai News Agency, this collaboration aims to improve the dissemination of comprehensive, accurate, and timely information to the public in preparation for the elections and referendum scheduled for February 8, 2026.

The Secretary-General of the Election Commission, Mr. Saweang Boonmee, emphasized the importance of utilizing modern technology to manage and oversee elections, which are crucial to democracy. The collaboration with TikTok Thailand is intended to ensure transparency, reliability, and efficiency in the election and referendum processes. By leveraging TikTok's platform, the ECT aims to reach a broader audience with election-related content, thereby facilitating greater voter engagement and understanding.

Mr. Saweang highlighted TikTok's role as a popular social media platform known for short, informative videos. The ongoing partnership with TikTok, which began in 2023, aims to make election publicity more effective. The ECT believes this collaboration represents a significant step in modernizing Thailand's election processes and building public trust in the digital age.

Chanida Klayphan, SEA Director of Public Policy at TikTok Thailand, confirmed the company's commitment to working with the ECT to ensure the integrity and transparency of the 2026 elections. TikTok plans to launch an "Election Center" to guide users to verified information, providing details on voting procedures, polling locations, and candidate lists. The platform will also enforce strict policies and collaborate with fact-checking partners to enhance digital literacy and responsible political participation.

The collaboration outlines TikTok's focus on three key areas: protecting election accuracy by debunking misinformation, empowering users with access to accurate information through election information centers, and partnering with over 20 fact-checking organizations worldwide. TikTok will prohibit political advertising and offer online training to political parties to promote constructive communication.

The Secretary-General of the Election Commission expressed confidence in the collaboration's potential to foster fair political competition and protect the credibility of the election results. The partnership aims to ensure a fair and honest election process until the final election day on February 8, 2026.
