Bangkok: The Election Commission of Thailand (ECT) has moved forward with a proposal from “Itim” to implement regulations that support early referendums outside the constituency. The ECT has confirmed its commitment to facilitating citizens’ access to voting options beyond their local constituencies.
According to Thai News Agency, the Election Commission office has also accepted a proposal from “Prit” to draft regulations that would support early referendums outside the constituency. This reflects a broader effort by the ECT to ensure that citizens have more accessible voting options.
The ECT has released a statement reinforcing its position to facilitate voting outside constituencies, ensuring that citizens can participate in the electoral process regardless of their location. This includes considering the proposal from Mr. Panus Wacharasindhu, a party-list MP from the Prachachon Party, which involves organizing “advance voting outside the constituency” by mail. Citizens would register for this at the same time as advance voting for Members of Parliament (MPs).
The implementation of postal referendums outside constituencies, alongside advance voting for MPs, is currently under consideration. The ECT is in the process of proposing regulations and guidelines to be reviewed at an upcoming meeting. This initiative aims to enhance public convenience while adhering to legal provisions.
