Bangkok:Thailand is set to host the 2026 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group from October 12-18 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center. These meetings, often referred to as the "Financial Olympics," will feature the introduction of the "Bangkok Blueprint," a crucial policy framework aimed at enhancing confidence in the digital financial system.
According to Thai News Agency, the Bangkok Blueprint represents a collaborative effort between Thailand, the International Monetary Fund, and the World Bank Group. As the host country, Thailand intends to use this framework as a 'policy compass' for various countries to adapt, thereby addressing digital financial challenges effectively.
The Bangkok Blueprint focuses on building robust policies and laws, preventing corruption, fostering interagency and international cooperation, and improving public knowledge and resilience. It emphasizes the use of digital financial technology and artificial intelligence (AI), with applications like Paotang and Thung Ngern, to assist small business owners and street vendors in accessing formal funding. Additionally, the Bank of Thailand and the IMF are working together to establish digital financial security standards.
This initiative is considered a key outcome of the conference, linking Thailand's national theme with global concerns over digital financial threats. It underscores Thailand's leadership in developing actionable solutions to mitigate these challenges and promote international cooperation.
Dr. Ekniti Nitithanprapas, Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, highlighted the transformative impact of AI on the workforce during the World Bank's 'Small AI More and Better Jobs' event at the meeting. He outlined Thailand's focus on enhancing job quality, creating new opportunities, and ensuring inclusive benefits through AI initiatives.
These initiatives include "AI in All," which aims to boost business productivity; "All in AI," which transforms data investments into quality jobs; and "AI for All," which supports workers and businesses adapting to technological changes. Dr. Ekniti emphasized the need for collaboration to harness AI for job creation and economic growth while safeguarding against risks like digital fraud.
