Bangkok:Thailand is gearing up for a significant announcement regarding its role in the upcoming MotoGP World Championship. On November 3, 2026, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, alongside the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT), will hold a press conference at the Chalermprakiat Building in Bangkok. This event will mark the official announcement of Thailand's readiness to host the first race of the 2027 MotoGP season, with global ticket sales launching at 2:00 PM.
According to Thai News Agency, the press conference will outline Thailand's plans to deliver an exceptional experience for motorsport fans, emphasizing high organizational standards and aiming for record ticket sales. This event will also showcase Thailand's potential and appeal to an international audience, continuing its role as the opening race of the MotoGP season for the third year in a row under the new 2027-2031 contract.
The ThaiGP 2027 is scheduled to take place from March 5-7, 2027, at Chang International Circuit in Buriram, Thailand. It will serve as the opening venue and host the pre-season test for the third consecutive year, becoming the first circuit globally to implement the new MotoGP technical regulations effective from the 2027 season.
Ms. Proadpran Samanmitr, Governor of the SAT, highlighted the popularity of the ThaiGP, noting the rapid sellout of Grandstand tickets in recent years. The 2026 event drew 228,228 attendees and generated substantial economic activity, with live broadcasts reaching over 800 million viewers in more than 200 countries.
As the opening race for the third consecutive year, the ThaiGP has captured significant attention, particularly with the introduction of new 850cc racing bikes and technical regulations. The event will be the first chance for fans to witness these advancements in action.
Before the championship race, Thailand will host the Buriram Test on February 6-7, 2027, allowing teams and riders to test new bikes at the Chang International Circuit.
