Thailand Showcases Anti-Fraud Blueprint at IMF-World Bank Meeting

Bangkok:Thailand's achievements were prominently featured at the recent IMF and World Bank forums, where the country played a key role in launching the "Bangkok Blueprint," a new initiative aimed at combating online financial fraud.

According to Thai News Agency, the Bangkok Blueprint was developed in collaboration with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank Group, and the Bank of Thailand. It outlines 12 strategies across five pillars, focusing on legal development, detection of suspicious transactions, cross-border data sharing, and victim redress.

Mr. Ekkapop Pienpises, Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, highlighted that Ms. Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the IMF, expressed her intention to use the framework for cyber governance and risk assessment to advise member countries. She plans to coordinate with the World Bank and the Financial Stability Board (FSB) to expand this initiative into international best practices.

Thailand has shared its experience in tackling fraud through initiatives like the Connect the Dots project and the AOC 1441 center. The Bank of Thailand reported a significant reduction in financial fraud losses, from over 43 billion baht in 2024 to 32 billion baht in 2025, and nearly 9 billion baht in the first half of 2026.

The OECD has also taken interest in Thailand's efforts, with its Secretary-General, Mr. Matthias Kormann, acknowledging the country's contributions at the Future-Ready Economy 2026 event. Thailand is in the process of becoming an OECD member, with 25 committees reviewing relevant laws and policies.

Additionally, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul hosted an evening event at Government House, offering Thai cuisine and showcasing cultural performances to international finance ministers and central bank governors. The event aimed to leave a lasting impression of Thai culture and hospitality.

Mr. Ekkapop stated that the Thai government is committed to ensuring that outcomes of the IMF-World Bank forum lead to practical actions, particularly in strengthening the Thai economy and combating online threats, thereby benefiting the Thai public.
