Thailand to Endorse Global Fraud Summit Outcome Documents

Bangkok: The Cabinet approved Thailand's participation in endorsing the outcome document of the Global Fraud Summit, emphasizing Thailand's proactive role in combating cross-border fraud.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Lalida Periswiwatana, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that the Cabinet approved the proposal from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Thailand to endorse two draft outcome documents of the Global Fraud Summit and to declare Thailand's commitment to combating fraud at the summit, which will be held on March 16-17, 2026, in Vienna, Austria.

The deputy spokesperson said that the outcome documents of the meeting that Thailand will endorse include the draft document promoting action against fraud, titled "Call to Action on Combatting Fraud," and the draft of the Global Public-Private Partnership Framework against Fraud. The meeting also provided an opportunity for member countries to declare their commitments to further address the issue of fraud. For Thailand, the focus will be on three key areas: the use of anti-money laundering measures; data integration and the use of digital technology, including artificial intelligence, to track financial transactions and verify fraud; and strengthening cooperation at both the international and inter-public sector levels to enhance the effectiveness of prevention, suppression, and assistance for victims.

Ms. Lalida stated that this Global Fraud Summit is important because it is a high-level forum aimed at promoting political will and international cooperation in combating "fraud crimes," particularly cybercrime, which is currently a transnational threat affecting economic security, public confidence, and the safety of the global community. The two draft documents focus on promoting cooperation in surveillance and information sharing, enhancing the effectiveness of law enforcement and the criminal justice process, protecting and safeguarding the public, and fostering collaboration with the private sector and relevant stakeholders. This ensures that anti-fraud efforts are comprehensive and responsive to the rapidly evolving patterns of crime.

The deputy spokesperson added that participating in this meeting is also an important opportunity for Thailand to demonstrate a leading role and clearly reaffirm its political will to promote international cooperation in combating fraud, especially building upon the International Conference on Global Partnership to Combat Online Fraud, which Thailand and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) co-hosted in Bangkok in December 2025. 'The government places great importance on preventing and suppressing fraud, especially online scams that affect a wide range of people. Participating in this Global Fraud Summit will help elevate Thailand's role on the international stage and strengthen concrete cooperation in effectively addressing new forms of crime,' Ms. Lalida said.
