Thailand to Highlight Health Coverage and Volunteer Network at IMF-World Bank Forum

Accra:The government is set to showcase its universal health coverage system and the Village Health Volunteer (VHV) network at the IMF-World Bank 2026 forum. This initiative aims to highlight Thailand's public health strengths and promote the health economy on a global stage.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Lalida Periswiwatana, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, announced that Mr. Pattana Promphat, Minister of Public Health, is preparing to present Thailand's public health system at the Thailand Pavilion exhibition during the IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings 2026. The event, hosted by Thailand from October 12-18, will demonstrate the nation's ability to provide healthcare at the community level while developing a health economy and the healthcare service industry.

The exhibition is scheduled to open on October 12 and will be organized into three key zones. The Longevity Zone will focus on Thailand's universal health coverage system, which ensures citizens have access to essential health services without incurring excessive costs. This comprehensive approach includes health promotion, disease prevention, medical treatment, rehabilitation, and palliative care.

A key feature of the exhibition is the nationwide network of Village Health Volunteers (VHVs), who play a crucial role in linking the public health system to community members. VHVs are involved in health education, disease prevention, household health surveys, and coordinating care, reflecting a healthcare model that prioritizes community participation over hospital reliance.

Furthermore, the Longevity Zone will highlight Thailand's health and wellness industry, showcasing products and services such as healthy food, bio-cosmetics, Thai massage, precision medicine, and wellness services. This underscores Thailand's capability to develop a robust public healthcare system alongside health-related economic and investment opportunities.

Ms. Lalida emphasized that this forum presents a significant opportunity for Thailand to demonstrate its public health services, community-based healthcare, and healthy economic development to global economic and financial policymakers, contributing to improved quality of life and sustainable economic growth.
