Bangkok: The Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand is confident that Thailand is ready to host the Youth Olympic Games 2030. The Governor revealed that the IOC is still awaiting clarification from the Thai government regarding the budget allocation for hosting the Youth Olympic Games 2030. They are only waiting for Cabinet approval before hearing the decision on June 25th.
According to Thai News Agency, Dr. Kongsak Yodmani, Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand, shared these insights following the arrival of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the chairman of the Youth Olympic Games 2030 working group in Thailand. The delegation is set to visit Bangkok and Chonburi from April 28-30 to evaluate Thailand's preparedness for hosting the prestigious event.
Dr. Kongsak stated that Thailand is one of three countries that have advanced to the final round, alongside Chile and Paraguay. He assured that the Thai government is committed to supporting the bid, focusing on inspiring youth through sports rather than merely aiming for victory. The bid emphasizes the policy of using sports to build character, thereby contributing to nation-building. The Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) intends to adhere to IOC guidelines by upgrading existing stadiums to meet international standards, rather than constructing new ones, to demonstrate Thailand's readiness.
The subsequent steps involve obtaining Cabinet approval, followed by discussions with the Prime Minister and the Minister of Tourism and Sports. Dr. Kongsak confirmed that Thailand has adequate funding, with the budget planned for disbursement over the fiscal years from 2027 to 2030, should Thailand be chosen as the host country. A press conference is scheduled for April 30th to summarize the discussions, ahead of the final decision on June 25th.
