Despite the advancements, Dr. Wanichchai highlighted the importance of adopting innovations from countries like Japan, such as Viscous Dampers, to further mitigate building vibrations and improve public awareness about earthquake preparedness.
The unique geology of Bangkok, characterized by soft soil basins, can amplify earthquake intensity significantly. Tall buildings are particularly susceptible to prolonged shaking. Although the probability of a major earthquake in Thailand remains below 10% in our lifetimes, Dr. Wanichchai stressed the need for continued vigilance and preparedness.
