Thailand’s Earthquake Preparedness: Sansiri’s Commitment to Safety and Innovation

Bangkok: Director of the Earthquake Research Center points out that Thailand still has a very low chance of an earthquake.

According to Thai News Agency, Sansiri, a leading real estate company in Thailand, has successfully navigated the challenges posed by recent seismic activities by strengthening its partnerships and setting new standards for the country's real estate sector. With a focus on innovation and collaboration, Sansiri aims to enhance safety and resilience across its developments.

Professor Dr. Pen-Nung Wanichchai, Director of the National Earthquake Research Center, emphasized the progress in design standards for new buildings in Thailand, driven by strict ministerial regulations for earthquake-resistant construction. The Ministerial Regulation 2021 mandates higher safety standards, ensuring that new projects comply with the TIS 1301/1302-61 standards. Despite the advancements, Dr. Wanichchai highlighted the importance of adopting innovations from countries like Japan, such as Viscous Dampers, to further mitigate building vibrations and improve public awareness about earthquake preparedness.

The unique geology of Bangkok, characterized by soft soil basins, can amplify earthquake intensity significantly. Tall buildings are particularly susceptible to prolonged shaking. Although the probability of a major earthquake in Thailand remains below 10% in our lifetimes, Dr. Wanichchai stressed the need for continued vigilance and preparedness.

Uthai Uthaisangsuk, CEO of Sansiri Public Company Limited, highlighted the company's resilience and commitment to safety. With over 40 years of experience and 225 high-rise projects, Sansiri has leveraged its strong network of partners to enhance industry standards. The collaboration with contractors, consultants, and service teams has been pivotal in ensuring the safety and security of their developments. Sansiri's initiative, 'BEYOND THE BLUEPRINTS,' aims to drive industry-wide cooperation for stronger, safer housing, emphasizing quality, continuous service, and well-being for residents.
