Thailand’s Success at Cannes Film Festival: A Billion-Baht Triumph for Team Thailand

Bangkok: Thailand's government is celebrating a significant achievement as "Team Thailand" made a remarkable impact at the Cannes Film Festival, generating over a billion baht in revenue for the country. The success highlights the potential of Thai film, series, animation, and related service entrepreneurs in meeting global market demands.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Ploytale Laksmisangchan, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, shared the accomplishments of Team Thailand during their participation in the March© du Film-Cannes Film Festival 2026, which took place from May 12-20, 2026, in Cannes, France. She noted that this year's involvement resulted in 296 trade meetings, showcasing the strength of the Thai film and content industry and drawing interest from buyers, investors, and business partners worldwide. The total value of trade negotiations surpassed 1,082 million baht, with immediate sales accounting for 27.89 million baht, projected sales within one year expected to reach 202.06 million baht, and projected sales within 2-5 years estimated at 852.23 million baht. Key trading partners included countries such as the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, South Korea, India, Taiwan, Vietnam, and Russia.

Ms. Ploytalee highlighted that the March© du Film is one of the world's foremost film markets for licensing, co-production, and investment in the film industry. In 2026, it attracted over 16,000 participants from more than 140 countries, while the Cannes Film Festival itself welcomed over 40,000 attendees. The March© du Film also featured over 1,700 buyers, more than 600 exhibitors, over 1,500 film and project screenings, more than 250 industry events, and over 100 conferences, underscoring its significance as a central hub for the global film industry in terms of trade, investment, and international business networking.

The government praised Team Thailand's success in the event, which resulted in a total trade negotiation value exceeding 1,082 million baht. Ms. Ploytalee emphasized that this achievement reflects the capability of Thai entrepreneurs in the film, series, animation, and related services industries to meet global market demands in terms of quality, creativity, and production standards. It also positions Thailand as a potential regional hub for film production and services.
