Thaksin Completes Quarantine, First Prison Visits Set for Tomorrow

Bangkok: Thaksin Shinawatra has completed his five-day quarantine, paving the way for his first visitor interactions tomorrow. A spokesperson for the Department of Corrections confirmed that Thaksin will undergo the same procedures as any other prisoner.

According to Thai News Agency, Police Lieutenant Colonel Chain Kanchanapaj, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Corrections and spokesman for the Department, stated that the former Prime Minister’s health has improved, with previously high blood pressure now normal. Thaksin’s specific prison assignment will depend on the prison’s schedule, but until then, he will stay in the quarantine area. While he qualifies for placement in the elderly ward, the final decision rests with the Prem Tinsulanonda prison commander.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Chain also mentioned that the prison is ready to allow family and legal visits for Thaksin starting tomorrow, without any special arrangements beyond those for regular inmates. Visits will occur through a glass window, as direct contact is not yet permitted. In terms of security, if supporters, such as the Red Shirts, gather to show their backing, local police will be notified to manage the situation.
