Bangkok: Thaksin Shinawatra spent his first night at Klong Prem Prison after being sentenced to one year by the Supreme Court. He was not stressed, slept soundly, and was able to eat. Meanwhile, Aem Pinthongtha, his daughter, posted a message, "Your father is the greatest hero in our hearts."
According to Thai News Agency, the atmosphere at Klong Prem Central Prison this morning saw numerous media outlets following the developments outside the prison. Yesterday at 11:50 a.m., Bangkok Remand Prison, led by the prison commander, received Thaksin Shinawatra from the Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions for detention in accordance with his one-year prison sentence. The prison followed the Department of Corrections' new inmate admission procedures, which included document verification, prison warrants, history preparation, body searches, health checks, and a briefing on regulations before transfer to the initial reception area.
Later, at 5:30 PM, the Department of Corrections transferred Mr. Thaksin to Klong Prem Central Prison, as he was a convicted prisoner. The transfer followed a prisoner classification system to ensure appropriateness for the prisoner's type and security standards.
Last night marked Thaksin's first night in prison. Currently, only his lawyer is allowed to visit him. His family will be able to visit him in five days. This morning, our news team contacted Mr. Winyat Chatmontri, Thaksin's personal lawyer, who revealed that there were no scheduled visits for him today due to business. However, from observing the area in front of the prison at 9:45 a.m., a Mercedes van, belonging to his lawyers, drove past the prison, heading towards the Bangkok Remand Prison, but did not stop. Approximately 20 minutes later, the van drove away from the prison grounds.
Reporters have been trying to contact senior executives in the Department of Corrections, including the commander of Klong Prem Central Prison and the Department of Corrections spokesperson, to monitor Thaksin's condition and well-being throughout the morning, but no one has been able to provide further details at this time. Reports indicate that Thaksin's first night in prison was smooth and peaceful, with no signs of illness.
Meanwhile, Pinthongtha Kunakornwong Shinawatra, Thaksin's eldest daughter, posted a message and photo on her personal Instagram account of herself kissing Thaksin on the cheek. She captioned the post, "No matter what you call him, what title he holds, or how wicked his name is, you are the greatest hero in our hearts. Regarding every issue in this world, many people are so sure they know every detail, I want to tell you that it's impossible to be as thorough as we believe. For me and my family, we believe that we've been together through every moment of our lives and through every story. Every wave, every love that turns back so quickly, but there are still so many people who have devoted their hearts to us, who have loved and been by our side forever. (Thank you from the bottom of my heart.)"
Meanwhile, Mr. Natthaphong Kunakornwong, her husband, posted a photo on his personal Instagram account of himself walking with Mr. Thaksin, along with the caption, "Proud every day to walk with this man."
