Thammanat Initiates “Narathiwat Model” Committee for Rabies-Free Zone Development

Narathiwat: Thammanat, in collaboration with ministers from four ministries, visited Narathiwat Province to spearhead the creation of a disease-free area and ensure public safety from rabies. He has called for the establishment of a committee to develop the region under the "Narathiwat Model," aiming to integrate efforts from all sectors to swiftly and accurately address public concerns.

According to Thai News Agency, Colonel Thammanat Prompow, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, led the opening ceremony for an accelerated sterilization and neutering project for dogs and cats to control and prevent rabies in high-risk areas of Narathiwat Province for fiscal year 2026. This initiative, part of the "Disease-Free Animals, Safe People" program, aligns with the aspirations of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. The event was attended by key figures including Professor Dr. Narumon Pinyosinwat, Minister of Education; Mr. Akara Prompow, Minister of Social Development and Human Security; Mr. Atthakorn Sirilathayakorn, Minister of Tourism and Sports; and local stakeholders. The project aims to significantly reduce the population of homeless animals, promote animal welfare, and create a sustainable community free from rabies.

Colonel Thammanat highlighted that the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, through the Department of Livestock Development, is conducting sterilization surgeries for dogs and cats in Narathiwat Province. This initiative is seen as a crucial step in systematically managing the animal population and creating a safe environment for both humans and animals. Additionally, it aims to minimize the financial burden on the public regarding pet health care and control the proliferation of stray animals, which could potentially lead to rabies outbreaks. A public relations campaign has also been launched to enhance public awareness about rabies, supporting the goal of establishing areas that are both disease-free and safe for residents.

Moreover, the Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives and his team were briefed on the water management and flood prevention strategies in Narathiwat Province. They engaged with local communities to understand their challenges and needs. A committee was ordered to be set up to drive development using the "Narathiwat Model," integrating efforts across various sectors to address issues promptly. The focus includes improving the quality of life, ensuring stable employment and income, and advancing work in agriculture, education, economics, society, and tourism. The initiative also involves upgrading Halal food standards to create new market opportunities and income sources, aiming for stability and sustainability in the southern border regions.

Colonel Thammanat emphasized that this visit represents a genuine outreach to the people, marking the first time that an ensemble of five cabinet ministers from four ministries has visited Su-ngai Kolok together. He assured that projects related to land for farming, agriculture, education, social development, and tourism would be realized. "As Deputy Prime Minister, I would like to assure you that any concerns raised by our people will be addressed and resolved immediately," he stated.
