Samut sakhon: The confession of the thief who stole 16 baht worth of gold in Samut Sakhon province has been revealed. Police announced the arrest of "Jok" and "Khae," two suspects in the robbery of 16 baht worth of gold from a well-known shopping mall in Samut Sakhon province. The arrest followed a 36-hour manhunt before they were apprehended in Nan province. They were taken to the scene to reenact the crime and provide a confession.
According to Thai News Agency, Samut Sakhon Provincial Police announced the arrest of Mr. Rattathanin, or "Jok," 35, and Mr. Nonthakorn, or "Khae Yak," 34, wanted on warrants issued by the Samut Sakhon Provincial Court for "jointly committing robbery at night by disguising their faces or using other means to prevent identification, with or using weapons." The seized items included a black and pink Honda Click motorcycle without license plates, a red Suzuki Ciaz RS VCT car with Bangkok license plates, and a face covering worn by the suspects during the crime.
The perpetrator's modus operandi began on May 1, 2026, at 7:50 PM, when Mr. Jok robbed a gold shop located inside a shopping mall in Moo 4, Khok Kham Subdistrict, Mueang Samut Sakhon District, Samut Sakhon Province. Wearing a rider's vest and a balaclava to conceal his face, and carrying a fake pistol, he entered the shop alone. He jumped over the glass display case, grabbed the gold jewelry totaling 16 baht, and fled.
The suspects then abandoned their motorcycle in a village before getting into a red sedan driven by a man named Yak, or Khe, who was waiting for them. They fled together, with Khe driving them to Nakhon Sawan province (his hometown) before continuing on to Nan province. Both were apprehended by police within 36 hours.
During the arrest, Mr. Yak, or Khe, confessed to participating in the robbery. However, during the subsequent investigation, he partially denied the charges and refused to participate in the press conference or the reenactment of the crime.
Mr. Khe has a prior arrest record for theft, having stolen nearly 300 baht worth of gold jewelry in Nan Province, and he also has numerous other criminal cases.
According to Mr. Jok's testimony, Mr. Khe had planned the robbery meticulously. He had scouted the location for 3-4 days prior, purchased a used motorcycle two days beforehand, and provided the fake gun and the delivery crew for Mr. Jok to use in the robbery.
Regarding the seized items, the process of tracking them down is currently ongoing because Mr. Jok claims all the assets are with Mr. Khe, who has yet to provide any statement during the investigation.
Mr. Jok confessed that he committed the crime to repay Mr. Yak for providing him with food and shelter since he was unemployed. He also admitted to greed because Mr. Yak promised to share the gold equally, but to date he hasn't received any gold, only 3,000 baht. As for the reason Mr. Yak planned the gold theft, Mr. Jok believes it was because he needed money to pay off his debts.
Following the press conference, police took Mr. Jok to the crime scene to reenact the events as part of his confession, before proceeding with legal action.
