Thief Crashes Motorcycle While Fleeing Theft Scene, Suffers Severe Injuries

Trang: A 43-year-old man was left with fractures in both legs after he crashed his motorcycle into a concrete base near a Ganesha shrine in Thaisamut Village. The accident occurred following his theft of power cables from Trang Hospital, leading to a chase by security guards. According to Thai News Agency, police officers from Trang City Police Station reported that the suspect, identified as Mr. Weerapong, had stolen and cut electrical wires at Trang Hospital. The security guard, Mr. Niwat, pursued him for over 5 kilometers until the suspect lost control of his motorcycle and crashed near the shrine's entrance arch. The motorcycle was found severely damaged with wire-cutting tools inside. Rescue workers from the Trang Charity Foundation provided first aid to Mr. Weerapong, who had sustained injuries to his head, face, and body, before transporting him to Trang Hospital for further treatment. Mr. Niwat recounted that during his routine patrol, he discovered the power was out at a public utility, prompting a n electrician's investigation. They found that the power lines had been cut, with wires bundled and hidden in a blanket. As Mr. Weerapong attempted to retrieve the wires, Mr. Niwat confronted him, resulting in the suspect's attempt to flee. During the pursuit, the suspect discarded some electrical wires along the roadside before crashing his motorcycle. Officials at Trang Hospital are currently gathering evidence to file a police report and pursue legal action against Mr. Weerapong for theft at a government facility. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
