Bangkok: Thunderstorms are forecasted to affect 60-80% of Thailand's regions, with heavy to very heavy rain expected, the Meteorological Department has announced. The North, Northeast, Central, and Eastern regions will see thunderstorms in 80% of the area, while the South will experience rain in 60-70% of the area.
According to Thai News Agency, the Meteorological Department has predicted that these weather conditions will persist over the next 24 hours. Residents in affected areas are urged to be cautious of the dangers posed by heavy rain, which could lead to flash floods, forest runoff, and landslides. Those living in hillside areas near waterways and lowlands are advised to avoid traveling through regions prone to thunderstorms and recurring floods, particularly low-lying areas where short-term flooding may occur. Farmers are encouraged to improve drainage systems to minimize potential damage to crops and livestock due to the passing monsoon trough over central regions, including Bangkok, and the moderate southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, the South, and the Gulf of Thailand.
The Andaman Sea's upper region is experiencing strong waves, reaching about 2 meters in height, while the lower region sees waves between 1-2 meters. Thunderstorm-affected areas may experience waves exceeding 2 meters. Sailors in both the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand are advised to exercise caution and avoid navigating through thunderstorm-prone zones. Small boats in the upper Andaman Sea are particularly recommended to remain ashore during this period.
The regional weather forecast details the expected conditions for various areas across Thailand. In Bangkok and its surrounding areas, there is an 80% chance of thunderstorms with heavy rain in some locations, with temperatures ranging from 24-34 degrees Celsius. The northern region will experience similar conditions, with thunderstorms in 80% of the area and heavy rain expected in areas such as Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, and Chiang Rai, with temperatures between 22-33 degrees Celsius.
