Chiang mai: Villagers in the Mae Wang area are on high alert after the discovery of tiger footprints in the forest, sparking fear and concern over the presence of a tiger believed to have killed livestock in the vicinity. Authorities are actively pursuing the tracks, suspecting the tiger may be the same one that recently preyed on three cows in the Doi Inthanon area.
According to Thai News Agency, the tiger was reported to have attacked livestock near Ban Muang Ang village in the Ban Luang sub-district, at the base of Doi Inthanon in the Chom Thong district. Villagers who encountered the animal confirmed it as a large striped tiger. The incident occurred three days ago and has since prompted an extensive search by authorities.
Mr. Jiranit Choengsaad, head of Doi Inthanon National Park, stated that efforts to locate the tiger are ongoing. The search operation, which includes experts, used thermal imaging drones to scan the area at night, covering a 5-kilometer radius around the site of the attack and nearby communities. Despite these efforts, no additional traces of the tiger have been found. A command center has been set up in Muang Ang village to maintain safety and alertness among residents around the clock.
Further investigation revealed new tiger footprints in Mae Wang National Park, indicating the possibility of the tiger's movement from Doi Inthanon to nearby hunting grounds. This has led villagers in the Muang Ang village area to take precautions, such as corralling their cattle, in response to the recent attack. Although there is no confirmation of the tiger's departure from the area, the community remains vigilant and cautious.
