Bangkok: The Department of Highways has announced that toll collection on the M81 Bang Yai - Kanchanaburi Motorway will commence at 00:01 AM on Friday, January 16, 2026. Entry onto the motorway will be seamless, while exits will provide two payment options: 'Pay via M-Flow for a barrier-free ride' or 'Pay at the toll booth.'
According to Thai News Agency, the Department of Highways is prepared to enhance services on Motorway No. 81 (M81), Bang Yai - Kanchanaburi, with a comprehensive traffic management system to ensure a safe and convenient travel experience for the public. The toll collection marks the transition from the trial phase, which allowed free access since October 31, 2025, during which various systems such as the toll collection system, the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITS), and the control and command center were installed and tested. These systems, managed by BGSR81 Co., Ltd., are now fully operational.
The toll will be calculated based on the type of vehicle and the distance traveled through the eight toll plazas: Bang Yai, Nakhon Chai Si, Si Sa Thong, Nakhon Pathom East, Nakhon Pathom West, Tha Maka, Tha Muang, and Kanchanaburi. For instance, a four-wheeled vehicle journeying from Bang Yai to Nakhon Chai Si will incur a toll of 45 baht, whereas traveling the entire route will cost 150 baht.
The M81 motorway incorporates modern technology, offering a high-performance automated license plate recognition (ALPR) system at each entrance. This system reads license plates automatically, streamlining the toll calculation process. Users can choose between two payment methods at the exit: the M-Flow lane for automatic deductions or a cash channel for manual payments at toll booths.
Mr. Suwichan Surabal, Director of the Intercity Expressway Division, emphasized the benefits of M-Flow membership, which facilitates toll payments, receipt requests, usage history access, and additional benefits. Registration is available via the MFlowThai application or the mflowthai.com website. Starting January 14, 2026, M-Flow registration service points will open at weigh stations in Nonthaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Ratchaburi, and Kanchanaburi to assist users.
The Department of Highways advises motorists to adhere to the speed limits: 4-wheel vehicles should not exceed 120 km/h, buses/trucks should not exceed 100 km/h, and heavy trucks/trailers should not exceed 80 km/h.
