Tone Bang Khae Asserts Innocence Amidst Fraud Allegations

Bangkok: "Tone Bang Khae," also known as Mr. Tonthong Sukkaen, met with police at the Crime Suppression Division to declare his innocence following rumors of an arrest warrant. He asserted his readiness to prove the truth and confirmed his intention to repay a debt owed to "Madam Keng."

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Tonthong, accompanied by his lawyer Mr. Chalermchai Sriyupak, presented documents and evidence to investigators. This action followed reports suggesting that a group of antique dealers, including Mr. Tonthong, was implicated in a fraud case amounting to over 5 billion baht. Mr. Tonthong emphasized that his meeting with the police was not a defensive move but a demonstration of his willingness to cooperate. He sought to clarify his status after being named by Pol. Maj. Gen. Jaroonkiat Panngew as the third individual facing charges. He stated that no confirmation of charges had been received yet and expressed his willingness to cooperate if charges were filed.

Mr. Tonthong detailed his financial dealings with Madam Keng, acknowledging a debt exceeding 800 million baht with a contract valid until 2030. He noted that over 500 million baht had already been repaid, with 300 million baht remaining. While acknowledging past issues with bounced checks, he clarified that these had been resolved and that checks claimed by Madam Keng were not his.

In addressing claims regarding collateral, Mr. Tonthong explained that the building used was valued at over 100 million baht, though appraisers had undervalued it. He further detailed a debt restructuring process and emphasized that funds borrowed from Madam Keng were invested in business ventures, with Madam Keng seeking interest from the loans.

Mr. Tonthong also refuted claims about using a Bentley, stating that he had purchased and fully paid for the vehicle and other branded assets. Regarding a 180 million baht debt secured by amulets, he mentioned the involvement of a renowned amulet expert, Kamol Teetuen, in appraising their value.

Reflecting on the events of April 17th, Mr. Tonthong recounted rumors of impending arrest warrants for amulet dealers and his decision to proactively meet with police. Despite attempts to resolve issues with "Big Tao," negotiations failed due to the presence of opposing parties.

Mr. Tonthong reiterated his commitment to repaying his debts, stating that all dealings with Madam Keng were conducted transparently and legally. He expressed continued respect for Madam Keng and concluded with a reflection on their past interactions, emphasizing the importance of truth in their dealings.
