Bangkok:TOP SPP Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Thai Oil Group, has received carbon credit certification for its 354-megawatt combined cycle power plant project. This marks a significant step towards the group's Net Zero goal.
According to Thai News Agency, the certification was awarded by the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization under the Thailand Standard Voluntary Greenhouse Gas Reduction Program (Standard T-VER). The certified reduction amounts to 202,964 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2eq), achieved through decreased greenhouse gas emissions from electricity and steam production between April 1, 2023, and March 31, 2026. This reduction is notably lower than the average emissions from power plants in Thailand's transmission system, leading to a cumulative reduction of 1,877,582 tCO2eq since 2018 when the company first applied for carbon credit certification.
This achievement supports Thai Oil Group's ongoing efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The carbon credit certification enhances their readiness under the Compensate Residual Emissions (C2) strategy, which aims to expedite the goal of reaching net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
Thai Oil is committed to balancing business operations with environmental protection and sustainable growth, contributing to the transition to a low-carbon society in the future.
