Bangkok:The Tourist Police are urging both the public and tourists to be vigilant against scams as they travel during the Halloween season. The warning comes from Pol. Lt. Gen. Pongsayam Meekhantong, Commander of the Tourist Police, who highlighted the "6 Scam Ghosts" concept to help travelers remember precautions and plan their trips more carefully.
According to Thai News Agency, the scams include those related to public transportation, where travelers are advised to confirm fares, check meters, and agree on routes beforehand. Tourists are also warned about scams involving claims of closed attractions, where it is recommended to verify such information through official channels.
Further, tourists should be cautious when renting boats and jet skis by reviewing rental agreements and inspecting equipment, and they should verify everything upon return. There are also scams related to unclear pricing and service charges, particularly in places without clear price lists, where it is advisable to inquire about costs upfront and check receipts before payment.
Additional warnings include being aware of potential scams at entertainment venues by checking entrance fees and drink prices beforehand, and at jewelry and tailor-made suit stores by confirming product details and return policies, particularly for high-value purchases.
The Tourist Police encourage tourists to double-check information and terms before using services to ensure a smooth travel experience. For any inquiries or assistance, tourists can contact the Tourist Police hotline at 1155, which is available 24 hours a day.
