Phu Kradueng: Tourists visiting Phu Kradueng National Park have voiced their opposition to the proposed construction of a cable car, fearing it will disturb the natural environment. Meanwhile, a significant majority of locals in Phu Kradueng District, Loei Province, support the project. More than 90 percent of residents agree with the initiative, believing it will bring prosperity to the area.
According to Thai News Agency, the national park experienced continuous rainfall, resulting in a minimal number of tourists, with only seven ascending the park today. This number includes 28 tourists staying overnight, among them two visitors from Udon Thani making their fifth ascent of Phu Kradueng. This visit marks their first attempt to climb and descend in a single day before the tourist season concludes on June 1st.
While local support for the cable car is strong, tourists today expressed concerns about the environmental impact of accompanying facilities. They argue that without additional infrastructure, the cable car may not attract significant popularity. However, if additional facilities are built, it could disrupt the natural balance.
In Phu Kradueng District, signs advocating for the cable car are widespread. The campaign's chairman notes a shift in perspective over the past 3-4 years, with diminished opposition after observing sustainable tourism management practices in Vietnam and Malaysia. Porters, initially concerned about job security, have been reassured by government measures. The younger generation is less inclined to pursue portering, opting for alternative careers due to the physically demanding nature of the work, although the profession remains lucrative during peak seasons.
