Mae taeng: Crowds of foreign tourists are gathering at Buatong Waterfall in Mae Taeng District, Chiang Mai, to take in the scenery and enjoy swimming during a bustling holiday weekend.
According to Thai News Agency, visitors from Europe and several Asian countries, including China, Taiwan, Singapore, Korea, and Japan, are making their way to the popular waterfall. They are attracted by the chance to relax, swim, and capture photographs of the picturesque surroundings. Most tourists hike up the levels of the waterfall, which range from 10 meters to 160 meters in height, taking time to appreciate the view and document their experience.
Mr. Supadej Chittawing, an official at Buatong Waterfall and Seven-Colored Spring National Park, noted that the waterfall's limestone structure, coated with calcium carbonate, provides a non-slippery surface ideal for climbing, though caution remains necessary. The waterfall's clear and cool water flows year-round, drawing approximately 3,000-4,000 foreign visitors daily, with numbers peaking at around 6,000. The influx of mostly Chinese tourists has boosted sales for the park's shops. Additionally, Thai tourists and families visit to relax, often spreading mats under large trees for shared meals.
