Bangkok:The government has urged the public to avoid specific routes near the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center during the IMF-World Bank meeting from October 12-18, 2026, recommending the use of the BTS Skytrain to mitigate traffic congestion.
According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, Ms. Ploytale Laksamee Saengchan, announced that special security and traffic management measures will be in place for the International Monetary Fund and World Bank Group Annual Meetings 2026. These measures aim to accommodate the arrival of national leaders, international financial organization executives, and other global participants.
The public is advised to plan their travel in advance, particularly around the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center and routes connecting to Bangkok's central business district. Traffic control adjustments may be implemented based on the convoys' missions of conference attendees. The use of public transportation, such as the MRT and BTS, is encouraged to reduce congestion risks.
Motorists are advised to avoid several key routes, including Ratchadaphisek Road from the Rama IV intersection to the Asoke-Sukhumvit intersection, and sections of Sukhumvit Road around Nana, Asoke, and Phrom Phong. Rama IV Road, especially near Khlong Toei and the convention center, should also be bypassed. Benjakitti Park is experiencing service adjustments, with temporary closures and restricted vehicle entry. Additionally, routes connecting Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports to hotels in the central business district, including Sukhumvit and Rama IV areas, may face special traffic management for convoys.
Ms. Ploytalee emphasized the importance of allowing extra travel time and staying informed through updates from the Bangkok Metropolitan Traffic Police and related agencies, as traffic control measures may change based on the situation and security needs during the conference.
