Train-Bus Collision Victim Identification Progresses as Families Provide DNA Samples

Bangkok: The names of those killed in the tragic train-bus collision remain unconfirmed as authorities work diligently to identify the deceased. The process has been hampered by the severe burns sustained by the bodies, making traditional identification methods impossible.

According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Maj. Gen. Wirun Suphasinghsiripreecha, Commander of the Forensic Science Institute, Police Hospital, reported that seven families have come forward to aid in the identification process. These families, comprising six Thai nationals and one Myanmar family, have provided DNA samples to facilitate the identification of their loved ones. Efforts are also underway to coordinate the identification of the fourth victim.

The identification process is expected to take a significant step forward with DNA comparisons anticipated to be completed by this evening or tomorrow. Once the results are available, they will be matched against the list of missing persons filed with Makkasan Police Station. Following this, legal documents will be prepared, allowing the families to retrieve the bodies for religious ceremonies, which are expected to take place around May 20-21.
