Train-Motorcycle Collision in Soi Lad Krabang 3 Highlights Safety Concerns

Bangkok: A reenactment of a tragic train-motorcycle collision in Soi Lad Krabang 3 suggests that the deceased may have mistakenly stopped on a lower track, believing the train would pass on an upper track. This incident marks the fifth similar accident at this location.

According to Thai News Agency, the accident occurred at a railway crossing inside Soi Lad Krabang 3, Intersection 4, near Wat Sangkharacha community. The crossing has three tracks: two upper tracks and a lower track used for freight trains. The 21-year-old woman who died in the accident was reportedly riding from the motorway side and halted on the lower track, possibly due to the curve in the road obscuring her view.

Local resident Uncle Tui mentioned that this location has been the site of approximately four similar accidents before. Despite the presence of functioning warning lights, he recalled hearing a loud collision while at home, suggesting the lights were not enough to prevent the accident.

Dr. John, a former Bangkok City Council member from Ladkrabang, confirmed that the incident took place in front of Wat Sangkharacha School. He noted that the lower track is not frequently used, which may contribute to the misunderstanding about train routes. Initial simulations indicate that the deceased might have panicked upon seeing the train after moving onto the tracks, leading to the fatal collision.

The area has a history of similar incidents, including a fatal accident last year involving a female firefighter. There is an ongoing discussion among the Ministry of Transport and related agencies to explore additional safety measures at this railway crossing to prevent future tragedies.
