United States Braces for Major Winter Storm Impacting 160 Million Residents

New york: The United States is facing its biggest winter storm of the year, putting more than 160 million people at risk. More than 160 million people in the United States, or nearly half the country, are bracing for a major winter storm expected to begin hitting on January 23rd, affecting more than two-thirds of the eastern part of the country. Authorities warn of heavy snowfall, widespread power outages, and extremely cold temperatures. Thousands of power line maintenance workers are scrambling to prepare, numerous flights have been cancelled, and drinking water is becoming scarce in many areas.

According to Thai News Agency, forecasters say the storm will begin in New Mexico, Texas, and Oklahoma before moving south and up the east coast to New York, Boston, and New England. Some areas could experience up to 30 centimeters of snow, and frigid temperatures in Minnesota and North Dakota could feel as low as -46 degrees Celsius. Authorities warn that the damage from the snowstorm could be as severe as a hurricane.

Cold air from Canada has forced schools to close in several cities and warned residents to avoid outdoor activities due to the risk of chills within minutes. Hundreds of flights have been canceled, while experts point out that forecasts are still subject to change due to temperatures only a few degrees higher, and the areas most severely affected may become clearer as the storm begins to form.
