Lamphun: A robber pretended to be a customer and robbed gold from a gold shop in the middle of the Pa Sang Market in Lamphun Province alone. It took him less than 5 minutes to steal 10 baht of gold. Police are urgently reviewing CCTV footage along the escape route to track down the robber.
According to Thai News Agency, CCTV captured the moment a thief robbed gold from a Yaowarat gold shop on the Lamphun-Li road in Pa Sang district, Lamphun province, before fleeing on a motorcycle, dropping his shoulder bag in front of the shop. The incident occurred at 11:45 a.m. today.
The Pa Sang Police Station and the investigation team of the Lamphun Provincial Police inspected the scene. Initial investigation found that the perpetrator was a thin man, approximately 165-170 cm tall, wearing a blue long-sleeved shirt, jeans, a black cap, and a mask covering his face. He rode a red Yamaha Mio motorcycle and parked in front of the shop. He pretended to ask to buy a 3-baht gold necklace before saying that it was too small and asked to see a 4-baht necklace for comparison. He then said that it was too small for 4 baht and asked to see two 5-baht necklaces. The salesperson showed him the necklaces. The perpetrator said that they were the same weight, but why were they not the same? He picked up the gold and compared it as if he was weighing it by hand. He took the opportunity to run out of the shop, rode a motorcycle, and fled along the Pa Sang-Mae Rang Road before turning into the alley of a snooker shop and fleeing. A rider and a good Samaritan tried to follow him, but they were not fast eno ugh. It is believed that he fled along the Ping River Road and crossed the bridge to San Pa Tong District, Chiang Mai Province.
Ms. Yupin, the gold shop manager, said that the perpetrator did not use any weapons to threaten her. He was about 30-40 years old, had a well-built body, dark red skin, was tall and thin, and appeared to be a local.
Police are urgently checking CCTV footage along the escape route to track down the culprit and bring them to justice as soon as possible. This gold shop was robbed once in 2013, with a total of more than 60 baht worth of gold stolen. The culprit was arrested and prosecuted, but the evidence was not returned in the amount that the culprit stole.
