Urgent Measures Implemented to Protect Phra Khanong Canal from Seawater Flooding

Bangkok: Officials from the Khlong Toei District Office, related agencies, and residents are urgently transporting sandbags to create a temporary dike to prevent seawater from flooding Khlong Phra Khanong. They are also warning residents in low-lying areas and along Khlong Phra Khanong to move belongings to higher ground and continuously monitor the situation.

According to Thai News Agency, following damage to the Phra Khanong Canal flood barrier caused by high tide last night, resulting in flooding in some communities, officials from the Khlong Toei District Office, along with related agencies and local residents, are currently working together to construct a temporary flood barrier by stacking sandbags in a long line near the Phra Khanong Canal. This is to repair the damaged existing defenses.

Urgent action is being taken amid concerns that sea levels may rise again. Initially, water levels have begun to recede in several areas, but close monitoring is still required, especially during the next high tide. Residents in low-lying areas and along the Phra Khanong canal are advised to move belongings to higher ground and continue to monitor the situation.
