Washington: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had planned to assassinate Israel’s ambassador to Mexico, but the attempt was thwarted, a US official announced. The plot, which began late last year, has been contained, and there is currently no threat.
According to Thai News Agency, an unnamed US official indicated that the plot against Ambassador Einat Kranz Neiger had been ongoing throughout the first half of the year. The official emphasized that this incident is part of Iran’s history of targeting diplomats and dissidents worldwide, suggesting vigilance in countries with Iranian residents. However, officials did not disclose details of how the plot was foiled or further information about the operation.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry expressed gratitude to Mexican security and law enforcement agencies for disrupting the network behind the assassination attempt. Conversely, the Iranian embassy in Mexico dismissed the allegations as false, asserting that Iran respects Mexican laws and interests.
The United States and its allies frequently accuse Iran and its affiliates of attempting attacks against Tehran’s opponents, which Iranian officials consistently deny, stating that such claims are politically motivated.
