Laem chabang: The USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier made its arrival at the port of Laem Chabang in eastern Thailand after completing an extensive deployment in the Middle East. The nuclear-powered vessel, which carries approximately 5,000 American service members, has been at sea for a total of 286 days. During this time, it participated in the US naval blockade of Iranian ports and was involved in combat operations within the Middle East region. According to Deutsche Welle, concerns arose over the duration of the deployment, prompting discussions about the mental health of the crew and potential shortages of supplies on board. The port visit in Thailand is scheduled to last five days, during which many service members are expected to make trips to the nearby resort town of Pattaya. While the influx of visitors is anticipated to provide a boost to local businesses, it has also attracted attention due to Pattaya's reputation as a center for sex tourism. US service members have been restricted from visiti ng certain areas in Pattaya known for their notoriety, including cannabis shops, and have been prohibited from participating in water sports activities like jet-skiing. Rear Admiral Robert Loughran, commander of the US Carrier Strike Group 3, expressed in a statement that the stopover in Laem Chabang offers a crucial opportunity for sailors and Marines to rest and recharge after their prolonged time at sea.
