Villagers Demand Probe Into Alleged Monks’ Behavior Near Historic Bodhi Tree

Nakhon ratchasima: Villagers have raised concerns over a group of individuals dressed as monks, reportedly consuming alcohol and causing disturbances under a 100-year-old Bodhi tree near the Nakhon Ratchasima Provincial Court. They have called on authorities to look into the matter.

According to Thai News Agency, residents of the Nakhon Ratchasima municipal area submitted a video clip to the media, highlighting the inappropriate conduct of the individuals dressed as monks and a layperson. The group was observed drinking alcohol and sniffing glue near the century-old Bodhi tree, located opposite the Nakhon Ratchasima Provincial Court and behind the Nakhon Ratchasima Provincial Administrative Organization building.

Reporters who visited the location for an initial investigation did not find the individuals, but discovered evidence suggesting habitation. Items such as mats, clothing, a hammock, a can of glue, bottles of white liquor, and cooking equipment were seen at the site.

Local merchants have reported seeing 2-4 people dressed as monks, along with a layperson, gathering regularly to consume alcohol. Despite police warnings, the activities have persisted. The community is urging the local administration and the Provincial Office of Buddhism to investigate and prevent the continuation of this behavior.
