Volunteer Soldier Killed in Suspected Insurgent Attack in Yala Province


Yala: The chief of the Krong Pinang Police Station in Yala Province led a team to inspect the scene of a shooting incident in which a volunteer defense corps member was killed in the middle of the night. It is believed that the insurgents wanted to show off their capabilities.



According to Thai News Agency, progress on the incident reveals that an unknown group of perpetrators used firearms to shoot and kill a member of the Village Defense Volunteers in Krong Pinang District at 2:00 AM. Pol. Col. Tophan Pusanthia, Superintendent of Krong Pinang Police Station, led forces to investigate and found the body of Sergeant Major Saudi, aged 45, a member of the Village Defense Volunteers in Krong Pinang District, straddling a motorcycle.



A short distance away from the scene, a black pickup truck was found damaged by fire. Bullet casings from handguns, shotguns, and war guns were also discovered at the site. These items were collected for examination and detailed investigation to find connections to other incidents. Officials initially believe that the attack was carried out by a group of insurgents operating in the area and nearby regions to demonstrate their capabilities.
