Bangkok: Kudos to the traffic police officers of Wang Thonglang Police Station for seizing firearms and narcotics. Traffic checkpoints, the first line of defense against crime, intercept dangers before they reach the public. The Director of the Traffic Police Division praised traffic police officers from Wang Thonglang Police Station for seizing firearms and narcotics. According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Gen. Samran Nualma, Deputy Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police and Director of the Traffic Management Center, expressed his admiration for the traffic police officers of Wang Thonglang Police Station for their diligent, thorough, and legally compliant performance in intercepting firearms and narcotics, preventing them from being used to commit crimes or pose a danger to the public and society as a whole. The incident occurred on January 17, 2026, at approximately 4:30 AM. Traffic police officers were conducting a checkpoint for alcohol testing in front of a gas station on Pracha Uthit Road, headin g towards the Meng Jai intersection. They stopped a BMW car without a front license plate for inspection. The driver and three passengers were all Vietnamese nationals and exhibited suspicious behavior. During a search of the vehicle, officers found a .38 caliber revolver with 6 rounds in the chamber, a .32 caliber handgun with 3 rounds in the chamber, approximately 9 grams of crystal methamphetamine hidden in the center console, two bags containing 250 methamphetamine pills, and several bags of ketamine in a handbag. The three suspects and the seized items were then handed over to investigators at Wang Thonglang Police Station for legal proceedings. Further investigation is underway to determine any connections to other criminal networks. Pol. Lt. Gen. Somprasong Yenthuam, Assistant Commissioner of the Royal Thai Police and Deputy Director of the Traffic Police Division, stated that the incident reflects the crucial role of traffic checkpoints, which are not only responsible for checking for alcohol levels or enforcing traffic laws, but also serve as a vital mechanism for preventing and suppressing crime. They help intercept threats before they enter communities and significantly enhance public safety. If these firearms and drugs had evaded inspection, they could have been used to commit violence in communities or endanger the lives and property of the public. Therefore, this discovery and seizure is considered a significant step in reducing risk and providing protection to society. Meanwhile, Pol. Lt. Gen. Nithithorn Chintakanon, Commander of the Police Education Division and head of the working group for enhancing the image of traffic police, stated that traffic checkpoints may cause road users to experience a slight delay, but every stop is an opportunity to prevent potential dangers to the lives, property, and families of the public. He assured the public that all actions taken by traffic police prioritize the benefit and safety of the public, ensuring sustainable safety on the roads and in communities.
