Whips of Three Parties to Discuss Parliamentary Session Framework on May 15

Bangkok: Sophon Saram revealed that the whips of the three parties are preparing to discuss the framework for the joint parliamentary session on May 15th. The debate will be allocated 9 hours, and members are requested to speak only on points they agree with or relevant to their concerns, hoping to elevate the level of debate and attract greater public attention.

According to Thai News Agency, Parliament President Sophon Saram disclosed details of the upcoming meeting of the three-party whips scheduled for Friday, May 15th. The Cabinet has confirmed that draft legislation will be submitted to Parliament. The session is set for nine hours, with a possible extension of half an hour if necessary, with time distributed proportionally among members. The focus of the discussions will be on points of agreement to maintain stability and expedite proceedings. If the opposition raises questions about other draft legislation not being submitted, they will be allowed to do so, providing the Cabinet an opportunity to explain the reasons. Detailed discussions on already approved legislation are to be avoided, though minor explanations or support are permitted if the bills have already passed.

The meeting also resolved to conduct another joint meeting either next week or next month to address the government's proposed agenda items concerning international agreements or constitutional amendments, which have already been discussed by the whips. The importance lies in the content presented rather than the length of the meeting. Disagreements should be debated appropriately within established timeframes, which have been clearly set recently to prevent exceeding limits. The timeframe for the session will be submitted promptly for expedited consideration.
