Woman Admits to Fabricating Mugging Story to Cover Lost Money

Bang Lamung: A woman created a false narrative about being mugged, leading to confusion and unnecessary efforts by local authorities. The incident unfolded when Ms. Rattana, 37, reported to the Bang Lamung Police Station that she was robbed while returning home on her motorcycle. She claimed that along the railway in Soi Siam Country Club, Nongprue Subdistrict, Bang Lamung District, Chon Buri Province, three men on two motorcycles forced her to the side of the road. She alleged that one of the men threatened her with a knife, stealing 32,000 baht and an engagement ring.

According to Thai News Agency, despite extensive efforts by the police, they found no evidence to support Ms. Rattana's claims. Police investigators scrutinized CCTV footage multiple times and, based on their experience, suspected the report might be false. They summoned Ms. Rattana for further questioning on May 25, which lasted over an hour.

Eventually, Ms. Rattana confessed to concocting the story. Her motive was to convince her foreign boyfriend that she was robbed, as she had lost money and needed an explanation. She apologized to the officers for the false report. Following the revelation of the truth, her boyfriend ended their relationship immediately.
