Woman Wielding Knife Wounds Two Tourists in Bangkok’s Sukhumvit Area

Bangkok: A woman, appearing to suffer from mental health issues, was detained by police after attacking tourists and bystanders with a knife in Bangkok's busy Sukhumvit area late Friday night, leaving two foreigners injured.

According to Thai News Agency, the incident occurred on the sidewalk near Sukhumvit Soi 5, a popular commercial and nightlife district. Witnesses described a chaotic scene as the woman began lunging at passersby with a blade.

Passersby and local motorcycle taxi drivers intervened to subdue the woman before Lumpini police arrived to take her into custody.

Police records indicate that the suspect has a history of violent behavior, including a previous altercation involving a knife on a public bus in the Thong Lo area. Witnesses stated the woman had been seen wandering the neighborhood for some time, though her behavior had only recently escalated to physical violence.

Lumpini police have initially charged the woman with assault. She has been transferred to the Somdet Chaopraya Institute of Psychiatry for a mental health evaluation.

Authorities stated that if she is diagnosed with a mental illness, she will undergo treatment before legal proceedings resume.
