Bangkok: 117 Thais in Iran have registered to return to Thailand as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses concern over the volatile situation in the Middle East. The Ministry has urged Thai citizens to leave high-risk areas promptly, with the first group of evacuees set to depart on March 7th.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Panidol Patchimsawat, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Information and Deputy Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, highlighted the ongoing conflicts involving Israel, the United States, and Iran, which have resulted in significant casualties and displacement, particularly in Lebanon. Despite the turmoil, there have been no reports of Thai citizens being harmed, but the Ministry stresses the importance of registering with embassies for updates and assistance.
In Iran, the evacuation of Thai nationals is underway, with consular officials facilitating their journey via Turkey. Meanwhile, 118 Thais in Lebanon and 917 in Bahrain are also preparing to return home, with the Ministry coordinating their safe passage. The airspace in Kuwait and Qatar remains closed, prompting continuous monitoring and exploration of evacuation options.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reiterated the importance of adhering to international law and prioritizing the safety of Thai citizens. Mr. Panidol emphasized the need for responsible commentary from foreign affairs experts, underscoring the fragility of the situation and the collective responsibility to protect Thai nationals in the region.
