13-Year-Old Boy Survives Crossbow Accident After Arrow Pierces Head

Buriram: A 13-year-old boy was rushed to the hospital after being struck in the head by a metal dart from a crossbow. The boy, identified as Nong Ta, was using the crossbow to shoot fish when the dart accidentally ricocheted and hit him.

According to Thai News Agency, a video clip shows Nong Ta answering questions from Buriram Hospital staff while they were assisting him. Despite the injury, he remained conscious and responsive before undergoing surgery to remove the arrow. Fortunately, the arrow did not damage any vital parts of his brain, and his condition is now stable.

Mr. Yiem, the 57-year-old village headman of Moo 6, Ban Bua Subdistrict, Mueang District, Buriram Province, recounted the incident that occurred on May 27th. After school, his grandson mentioned he was going fishing with friends in a nearby stream, an activity he often did. Mr. Yiem did not object, wanting his grandson to learn from the experience.

Two hours later, the boy returned, clutching his head with the crossbow's spearhead embedded in it. Mr. Yiem immediately called for emergency medical services, which transported the boy to Buriram Hospital. The exact source of the crossbow remains unknown, but the boy revealed he attempted to shoot fish with it, leading to the incident.

The village headman emphasized that the incident is a warning for children and their guardians, especially those engaging in fishing or using hunting equipment. He noted that lack of experience and knowledge can result in severe accidents. In this case, it was fortunate that the dart avoided critical areas of the brain, preventing a potentially life-threatening situation.
