Bangkok: Chaiwat Thanakamanusorn, Deputy Leader of the Palang Pracharath Party, indicated that Thaksin Shinawatra's recent visit to Dubai is likely connected to political matters. He refrained from confirming whether Thaksin had traveled to Dubai and returned, noting that he would defer to medical advice regarding Thaksin's movements in and out of Thailand.
According to Thai News Agency, Chaiwat addressed media inquiries about Thaksin's whereabouts and clarified his understanding of the situation. He mentioned observing news reports and questioned if Thaksin had traveled to Singapore or Dubai, to which a reporter confirmed Dubai as the destination. Chaiwat humorously remarked about buying chocolate in Dubai but underscored his belief that Thaksin's travel was politically motivated, given the day's prime ministerial vote.
Chaiwat suggested that Thaksin's decision to remain outside Thailand might be related to anticipated challenges in the political vote and expressed skepticism about Thaksin's return by September 9th. He chose not to speculate further on Thaksin's return plans.
Regarding whether General Prawit Wongsuwan, leader of the Palang Pracharath Party, was informed about Thaksin's travel, Chaiwat asserted that it was common knowledge among Thais. He downplayed its significance, emphasizing instead the public's interest in the selection of a new prime minister.
